Task 2 – Be able to prepare pre-production documentation for a specific media production

This is the pre-production process that I carried out for the game that I created for the iPad.

Finance

For my game I will be the only one working on it, it is called “Archie The Archaeologist”. I will have no money available to spend so I have to make the most out of  the facilities and equipment that will be available to me, unless I am willing to spend my own money. I wiill not use any money for this production.

Personnel

Having joined this course 6 weeks into the year, I am unable to work with a group so I have to work on my own. I will be in charge on designing the game, creating the art for the game, the logic of how the game worked and the adding & finding sound to fit in to my game.

Resources and Materials

During the production of my game I will use the following equipment:

  • Paper and pencils
  • Scanner
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Internet (google, wordpress)
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Phone/Voice Recorder
  • Apple Mac
  • GameSalad
  • iPad

The paper and pencils will be the things used to create the concept art for my game and designing my game. The scanner will be used to scan the concept art that I have drawn on to the computer. Adobe Illustrator will be used to go over my designs using the pen tool, this will help create a cartoon like art style that I envision for my game. Adobe Photoshop will be used to put colour onto the images that I create, I will use the paint tool, the gradient tool and different filters to ensure my art work looks good. I will use Google to help me gain some inspiration for the concept art of my game and I will use wordpress to write everything that I do, down.  Microsoft Excel will be used to create a bug list and deadlines for my game and the phone/voice recorder will be used to record the different sound effects that I wish to include in my game. The Apple Mac will be used to find different music that I could use in my game and GameSalad will be the software I use to create my game. The iPad will be used to ensure that my game works on it, as the iPad is the what I want the game to be released on.

Location

I will use my bedroom and the classroom to create my game. Everyday I will bring my work home and add more and more things to my game, making sure it runs smoothly and I am happy with it. I will into a quiet room next door to the classroom to record a voice that I want to use as the voice of my character.

The image on the left is my original level design for the first level of my game. It includes my character, blocks that the character must climb up and down, a moving platform that the character steps on and is moved to the next steps, spikes that when hit the level will restart, a pit where if you fall down it the level will restart and the artifact that you have to get in order to complete the level.

The image on the right is my original level design for the second level of my game. It includes my character, hovering blocks that fall after a few seconds of the character stepping on them, steps that the character goes up and down, poison arrows that kill the character when it’s hit by them, it restarts the level when the arrow hits the character and pits which restart the level when the character falls down them and an artifact that the character must retrieve in order to complete the level.

The images on the left is my original level design for the third level of my game. It includes my character, steps that the character goes up and down, a moving platform that the character steps on and is moved to the next steps, fire which will spawn every 5 seconds and will kill the character and restarting the level when the character touches it, spikes which kill and restarts the level when the character touches them, hovering blocks which fall when the character stays on them for a few seconds, pits which kill the character and restarts the level and an artifact that the character must acquire in order to complete the level.
