Wikipedia
A wiki site is a website that gives information to people about different subjects. It allows people to modify the content of different pages, being able to do this allows the people that specialize in a certain subject to write about and give information about that particular subject, this will help those people to understand a certain subject. Wiki helps people from all over the world to understand and learn about different things, for example, if I type in Photoshop it will give information about what Photoshop is and how it’s used etc.
I use wikipages to gain information about certain subjects within my course, I have to be careful though because with the wikipages being available to modify by anyone the information given might be incorrect. To ensure my information is correct I use different sources so as to back up the information on wiki.
Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest stories. Tweets are small bursts of information and are 140 characters long. You don’t have to tweet loads to enjoy twitter, you can still gather information from things that interest you. There are various ways in which Twitter is used, around the world and on the go. It is up to you how or what you use twitter for, some use it to gather information about new products that are coming out soon, some use it to communicate with different people and some use it to promote themselves or others. Most celebrities now use Twitter as a way of getting involved with their fans etc.
I use twitter to basically vent my frustrations about different things, interact with people, give my opinion about things and the main thing I use it for is to keep up to date with the thing that i am most interested in and that is Birmingham City Football Club.
SKYPE
Skype
Skype is a service which allows it’s users to communicate with others using their own voice through a microphone, it also allows you to have video calls using a webcam and instant messaging over the internet. Calls to other users of Skype are free of charge, whereas calls to landlines and mobile phones are charged via a debit based user account system. Unlike most VoIP, Skype is a hybrid peer to peer and client system.
BLOGS
A blog is a discussion or informational site published on the world wide web. There are many different features that make a blog unique from any other website, these are:
- content is published in a chronological fashion
- content is updated regularly
- readers have the opportunity to leave comments
- other blog authors can interact via trackbacks and pingbacks
- content is syndicated via RSS feeds
SOCIAL BOOKMARKING
Social bookmarking is a centralized service which enables users to add, annotate, edit and share bookmarks of different webpages. Delicious is a main social bookmarking web service, it is used to store, share and discover web bookmarks
